Scott Hampton—Owner, Founder, Financial Expert

Mr. Hampton is the founder of Hampton IP & Economic Consulting, LLC, a forensic accounting and economic consulting firm. Before founding Hampton IP & Economic Consultants and its predecessors, he was a senior manager with Arthur Andersen & Company and manager at KPMG Peat Marwick. He was a licensed Certified Public Accountant in California, Washington, and Utah until 2020. He is Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) and Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has lectured on intellectual property and economic damages before gatherings of the Washington State Bar Association, Utah State Bar Association, Law & Economics Society, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA), and the Licensing Executive Society. He is past chair of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants Litigation Services Committee and past chair of the Salt Lake City Chapter of the Licensing Executive Society. Mr. Hampton graduated from the University of Utah, David Eccles School of Business, in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

Mr. Hampton has 35 years of forensic consulting experience and has extensive knowledge of intellectual property valuation and the calculation of economic damages in commercial litigation. He has offered testimony in State and Federal courts and other dispute resolution forums across the country related to large commercial litigation including breach of contract, construction delays and disruptions, and the infringement of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and misappropriation of trade secrets. He has participated in more than 350 intellectual property cases, involving patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. He has wide-ranging experience calculating reasonable royalty damages using well-established and accepted methods and approaches. He has valued intellectual assets for commercial purposes, and assisted clients value and license intellectual property. Also, Mr. Hampton has broad experience quantifying economic damages associated with business interruption claims, breaches of contract, and construction delays and disruptions. While with Arthur Andersen & Company, Mr. Hampton worked extensively on the Exxon Valdez oil spill litigation.
